Panama has good roads and cheap, frequent public transportation.
The legal speed
limit is 60km/hr in the cities and 100km/hr on highways. Driving above these
limits may result in fines with the possibility of loosing your license. Most
international driving licenses are accepted in Panama, but check with the
Rental company to be sure. A blood alcohol level of any kind is not
tolerated, as well as talking on the cell phone while driving. Not wearing
seat belts is also prohibited.
Panama has a number of domestic

There is an inexpensive bus system servicing
all accessible parts of the country.

Panama Railway Company:
The country only railroad has two destinations, Panama City-Colon and back .
It's tracks parallel the Panama Canal and pass through the rainforest, making
this an interesting journey. Trains leave at 7:15 a.m. and return at 5:15
p.m. Tickets are $35.00 (round trip) and $20.00 (one way)

Public Transport
in Panama City
Public buses can be confusing
and should only be used on main avenues, such as Via Espana, Avenida Ricardo
J.Alfaro
(Tumba Muerto) and Avenida Transistmica.
The fixed rate is $0.25 and
is paid when you step out of the bus.

Taxi: There are
numerous taxi services in and around the cities in both Colon and Panama
City. There are fixed rates from the hotels to the city, and vice versa. The
average city tour costs $35 for the first 4 hours. You can negotiate extra
hours after that.
Taxis in the Panama City are quite safe and cheap. The highest rate rate for
two people can be $2.00, and even thought tourists are charged a bit extra,
there is chance to negotiate a lower price. You can get a taxi, when you get
to Tocumen International Airport, but they cost much more than average city
taxi. The average cost for a ride from the airport to the city is $10.00 to
$25.00.
Be sure to ask if your
Hotel provides shuttle service.
Outside the City:Boats are
the principal mode of transportation in several parts of Panama, particularly
between the San Blas and
Bocas del Toro archipelagos. Kuna Indian merchant
vessels carry cargo and passengers along the San Blas coast, between Colón
and Puerto Obaldía.
Cars can be rented in Panama City.
